A metamorphic structure (compressed sea-bottom alluvial rock) that was pushed up by Sierra movements over the eons. Points of contact with the surrounding granite formations are where tungsten deposits are located and had been mined during WWII. Most of the infrastructure and abandoned equipment was removed in order for this area to attain Wilderness status
