Interesting Facts & Highlights

Yosemite

Named in 1851 by Lafayette Bunnell of the Mariposa Battalion for the chief of the tribe that had been found living on the shores (Ten-ie-ya). The chief did not feel it was just compensation for the loss of his territory and left his home with a heavy heart. This backdrop is etched in one of Ansel Adams most powerful pictures, with the smooth glacial formations contrasted by the cobalt blue waters.
