zScapes Ramble On
Airplanes & Aviation

As many of you know, I have been an aviation enthusiast for many many years. I believe that my younger years living across 4 continents and 7 countries following my dad's Civil Engineer career, was the Lynch pin in pursuing my love of airplanes and flying. From my first flight in a BOAC Boeing Stratocruiser from London to Lagos (where I poked the man in front of us with my mothers knitting needles) to the hundred of thousands hours of flying since (subsidized by my airline career), stepping on board a plane to fly away is a total thrill for me. My aviation photography over the years has been on and off, so I have cobbled together what images have been collected over the years. The dates are about right, so excuse any omission and pass along any corrections that you have. Enjoy!
The Great North Anchorage & Beyond
The Air Freighter Capital of the World airlines, except for FedEx which gets its own section (of course).
FedEx images from 2009 to 2013 gathered during my quarterly service/quality visits. Some of these days were real cold, like 0 degrees but what a photographers delight capturing super sharp images
Lastly, some other airplane sightings out and about during my travels. Many thanks to Jim for all the TaylorCraft trips that gave me a Birds Eye view of Anchorage and her beauty, along some with some interesting landing spots and one memorable takeoff.
National Air & Space Museum 2009
On a swing visiting Betsey's college roommates we had time to visit this gem of a museum. I believe it has been on a long run remodeling that is to be completed July 2026. Looking forward to visiting again.
Toronto Pearson Airport 1984
Took these images visiting my good friend Weg while he was working for WardAir in Toronto. Remember taking Air Canada from SFO and having lobster at 30k feet (on an airline pass, could not afford the fare back then!). All of these aircraft haven retired and/or scrapped!
San Francisco International 1978
Where it all started! My interest in photography began shooting from the SFO observation deck (long gone!) and took me along an exciting path in aviation. The construction that you can see in the foreground was the beginnings of the North Terminal.
May our paths & errands meet
