Emigrant 1987-1989 :: 5 Trips ~ Kennedy, Lewis, Rosasco Lakes
Well It all started in 1986 after a camping/fishing trip with my buddy George and Gandalf, a fish hungry Alaskan Malamute, to Kennedy Meadows. As we explored the area, specifically upper Kennedy Meadows, George looked towards the high country, turned around and asked, 'what's up there?" As I had taken one trip into the Emigrant in my high school years with my Dad, Colin, Paul and my school friend Fred, I replied with total confidence, "some gorgeous country" and that was all it took to start these many years of exploring and friendship.

Emigrant 1990-1992 :: 5 Trips ~ Kennedy, Iceland, Deer Lakes
The 90's started out on a slow pace, with just 1 backcountry trip and 1 car camping outing. We had a guest traveller, Mike Woo PSA compadre, who was brave to venture in with us, had a good time (so he told us), but ended up like most, not returning for an encore! It was low snow year but the conditions were ideal and the fishing did not disappoint.

John Muir 1992 :: 10 days & 39 miles
After 5 years of plowing through the Emigrant, it was time to take on a new wilderness and John Muir fit the bill. Believe this was George's pick and was also to be our longest trip to date. Given the distance to the Seven Gables Basin, pack in was a must and the High Sierra Pack Station was our jump off point. Great outfit, getting us to our drop point and also positioning our SUV so we could walk out a different route, basically avoiding a nasty up and down.

Emigrant 1993-1994 :: 3 Trips ~ Kennedy, Emigrant, Dorothy Lakes
First was the yearly pilgrimage to Kennedy Lake and we found a lot of snow along the way and at the lake. These are some of my most memorable hikes, just a short 8 miles and you are enveloped in a whole new world! Also, our first foray into Yosemite backcountry.

Emigrant 1995-1997 :: 3 Trips ~ Kennedy, Emigrant Lake Loop (2x)
Busy year for both George and myself, just time for one trip to our favorite warm up, Kennedy Lake. We were attempting to get further into the backcountry, however, a heavy snow season (remember those!) confronted us. We enlisted the help of my bowling buddy Ronson to give us a quick overfly of Emigrant to scope out. Pretty much solid snow all around, so we headed up to Kennedy lake and made the best of it.
