Santa Fe Arts Cebter 2011
Santa Fe New Mexico September 2011
September 2010 found Betsey and I in Chicago for George and Sara's wedding, and while the occasion was joyful, a cloudy rain stayed with us. So when George and Sara suggested a warmer climate to celebrate their anniversary, what could be better than the high desert of the Southwest! Of course, there was an ulterior motive to catch a state high point on George's quest for the US 50, which you can catch up on at Wheeler Peak 2011.

Banff Alberta Canada November 2008
After a successful summer trip with George and Sarah, we decided to take an extended weekend vacation to Banff, Canada and pamper ourselves with a stay at the Fairmont Spa + Resort. Interestingly, Banff is equidistant from Chicago and the Bay Area. George and Sarah were to arrive Thanksgiving night and we were to follow on Friday. As is the state of affairs with air travel these days, both of us were late.

Yosemite High Sierra August 2006
We won the lottery!!! Well sort of. Actually a friend of Betsey's cousin Kathleen won a coveted Hi-Sierra 6-day mule trip back in 2005 and through various twists and turns we were able to hitch along. The anticipation in 2005 was dashed when (for only the second time since 1916) the camps did not open due to high snow depths (15+ feet) and dangerous water levels. The last time was in 1996 due to wet El Nino year. We waited patiently for the summer of 2006 to approach

Khutzeymateen Redux June 2005
Well, one visit was not enough and June 2005 had us back in the northern reaches of British Columbia to experience the Khutzeymateen grizzly bears once again. We planned this year to be on the very last trip so we would have a better chance to see mothers with cubs. Read on to see if we were successful.

Grizzly Bear Adventure June 2004
The Khutzeymateen Valley, tucked away north of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, is a pristine guarded sanctuary for the North American Grizzly. The valley supports around 50 bears due to its abundant food sources, consisting of sedge grass, skunk cabbage, mussels , salmon, and rugged and inaccessible terrain. The valley is home to a variety of wildlife commingling in 45,000 hectares of protected wilderness.

American Orient Express June 2001
As we planned our Summer of 2001 vacation we decided to go local and then pondered the myriad of options. Since we had been on the original Orient Express for our honeymoon, we decided to taste the home grown version. After pouring through the many trip options, we settled on a venue that rolled us through the Northwest countryside and National Parks of America.

Costa Rica December 1998
The 1998 holidays were our escape from a pretty rough year of work-work-work. We were on another trip arranged by our superstar travel agent, unfortunately it would be our last. She left the business for reasons we would never discover. Nonetheless, we were pampered by Alex and Carlito, our naturalist and driver, through plenty of Costa Rican potholes and breathtaking natural beauty.
