Yellowstone Autumn 2023
After an exciting and successful winter trip to Yellowstone with Wolf Trackers, I had tentatively decided to mark down 2024 as my next venture. That all changed with an announcement from Nathan that Doug Smith, the Senior Wolf Biologist and Project Leader for the Yellowstone wolf reintroduction program, would be joining several trips in the near future to include a day in the field with Doug and two nights of presentations.

Yellowstone Winter 2023
A lot has transpired since I last visited Yellowstone, however, the draw has always been there and after scuttling several plans to visit, I made good in 2023. With Gardiner as our base, we set into the park over the course of four days to experience the magic of a peaceful and serene winter wonderland. In the intervening years, Yellowstone Wolf Tracker has transformed into the premier wolf watching venue with a continued watchful eye from Nathan and Linda.

Yellowstone Wildland 2012
I was back in Yellowstone in 2012 on a backpacking venture with Nathan and Yellowstone Wolf Tracker, right on the heels of several days in the Sierra Nevada range. An interesting set of "book ends" with the wide open, high altitude calderas of Yellowstone wrapped around me, I have lingering memories of the glacial carved deep ravines, jagged ridges and smoothed domes of the 'range of light', as John Muir has etched in our California psyche

Yellowstone Winter 2011
What is about wolves that creates fascination and awe for some, while others view them, not as a symbol of the wild, but rather as a threat to be exterminated? This trip is about the awe and fascination that comes from within after you spend 5 days with two eminent wolf biologists who are the proprietors of Yellowstone Wolf Guides (The Wild Side). This was my second trip with Nathan and Linda (Yellowstone 2007) and is one of my most memorable outdoor experiences.

Yellowstone Wildlife 2007
It is hard to admit, but my 50th birthday showed up even though I was strongly against it. To make the eventful day a just bit easier, Betsey and my Mom set me up on a wildlife photo trip of my choice. Yellowstone and wolves were the target choice, and after a bit of web searching I settled on a spring adventure with Yellowstone Wolf Guides. The hosts are Nathan Varely and Linda Thurston who are highly respected biologists, have an intimate knowledge of the park and are dedicated to the preservation of this diverse eco-wildlife system.
