Fall Colors Sonora Pass & Eastern Sierra Nevada
For many a year, John, my photo buddy, and I have been attempting to capture the Autumn colors but one thing or another seemed to get in the way. 2018 turned out to be the year where all the dynamics lined up and off we went. We started early morning after a nice breakfast and up to and over Sonora Pass and then along the eastern Sierra Nevada range. Weather was bluebird skies and we were wrapped in golden colors. I will let the images speak for themselves. Enjoy.

Sonora Pass and Harvest Moon over Mono Lake
To say this was a fall colors trip is a bit of a stretch. With the heavy winter, late snowmelt and warmer temperatures, the cold soak necessary for the aspens to turn colors was just starting. So this was more of trip just to get out and shoot.

When you are faced with sub-optimal conditions, best thing is to look for the alternatives. And so we did.

Donnell Vista & Dardanelle Resort
Our path along SR108 was taking us up through the decimation of the Donnell Fire that prior August. The main casualty was Dardanelle Resort that I have passed by on my way to Kennedy Meadows for the past 50+ years. It was heartbreaking to see, however, just a month after the devastation crews were working to rebuild. A testament to those that inhabit the mountains. They live with fire, but they do not let it rule their lives.
