Sonora Pass & Eastern Sierra Fall Colors
For many a year, John, my photo buddy, and I have been attempting to capture the Autumn colors but one thing or another seemed to get in the way. 2018 turned out to be the year where all the dynamics lined up and off we went. We started early morning after a nice breakfast and up to and over Sonora Pass and then along the eastern Sierra Nevada range. Weather was bluebird skies and we were wrapped in golden colors. I will let the images speak for themselves. Enjoy.
Osprey Family
Sierra Foothills Osprey Family 2011
As you head towards Sonora, California and the gold country in the foothills of the Sierra, there are several water reservoirs that capture the yearly snowmelt and provide the drinking and agriculture liquid gold that maintains this semi-arid state. Living, nesting and raising their young, raptors take advantage of these waterways and if you are patient and willing to paddle into distant coves, these magnificent creatures will reveal themselves.
Flycatcher @ Ramrod Ranch 2011
Ramrod Ranch Carmel Valley June 2011
From many of us, we see far away places as enticing, exotic and out of reach. But many times we do not see the wonder of our own backyard, even as we gaze upon what eludes us. The scenes are part of our everyday and could not possibly hold anything exciting, or be worth taking some time to experience. Ramrod Ranch is one of these places. Situated in the Carmel Valley along the coastal mountains, it is another part of this spectacular state that reveals itself along a winding country road.

Mt St Helens Elks Washington 2002
It was a wonderful surprise to open a birthday card and find that my wife and mother had given me a photo safari with Gerry Lamarre to capture baby Elk in Washington's Toutle Valley, now home of the Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument. What a treat, and in just a few months I was off to Portland with a short drive away. I have several of Gerry's photos gracing our home and have always admired his work and ability to capture nature and wildlife in honest surroundings.
